Bio
Gaston Shephard Locklear III. (Somehow shortened to Buddy)
June '68 - Conceived
Feb'69 - Born. Aquarius sign, the beach is in my future.
October'69 - Started teething. Hurt like hell but I took it like a man.
August '78 - Left eyebrow turns white. The heckling begins.
September '79 - Moved to Garden City Beach.
June '80 - Got my first board. Started drawing about this time as well. Monsters and little surfing scenes on the school books.
June '85 - Got my dream job at the local surf shop, unaware that I would be stuck there for 17 years with no pay increase, health insurance, or paid vacations. Quit 3 times, fired twice. Still owes me 11 dollars.
August '87 - Moved to Santa Monica. Got a job at McDonald's. Worked 5 days. Came home
'88 Thru '92 - Attended the University of South Carolina. Got a degree in graphic design and took a few drawing classes as well.
Summer of '92 - Got my second dream job airbrushing surfboards, unaware that I would be stuck there for 12 years with no pay increase, health insurance, or paid vacations. Quit twice, fired 3 times.
March '97 - Went to the MOMA and saw Egon Schiele's 'Winter tree' painting and several of his other pieces. Coolest art I'd ever seen and still my favorite. Couldn't wait to get home and paint.
September '97 - Moved into my first warehouse. Started taking painting more serious. Ordered canvas by the rolls, began collecting tools, started getting involved with the local art scene.
October '99 - March '00 - Moved to St. Thomas. Caught some really good waves. Drank a lot of Rum.
Fall of '02 - Opened a gallery in Myrtle Beach called 'The Leftside Gallery'. My genius wife told me the left side of the brain is the creative side. It's not. Closed 5 months later.
November '02 - Started making prints of my paintings.
January '05 - Had a booth at the Surf Expo in Orlando. Got a few accounts, slowly getting my work 'out there'.
Today - Get up at 6, paint from 8-12, lunch at the Piggly Wiggly, print stuff, do some hard thinking, dinner a@6.
